"The Girl Everyone Thinks Is a Backstabber" is the third episode of Cycle 3 of America's Next Top Model. It first aired on October 6, 2004, and garnered 5.10 million viewers.

Episode

The episode opens with Cassie stating she's hungry and expressing how much she focuses on her weight. Julie asks her how much weight she plans on losing, to which she's unsure about. Amanda is on the phone to her son, Eli, singing the itsy bitsy spider and then sobbing because she misses him.

Tyra Mail: Long, short, dark, light. It doesn't matter we'll make it right. Be ready at 9:45 AM.

Makeovers

The girls meet with Mr. Jay at the Peter Coppola salon. He states the girls will be getting makeovers, and he will instruct them on a makeup look after their new looks are done. Joining him are stylists Anthony Polermo and Leonard Zagomi, and soon Tyra walks in.

• Kelle will get long wavy hair extensions.
• Julie gets 6-8 inches cut.
• Yaya will get her braids taken out. She will also see one of the best dermatologists in New York City for her skin.
• Ann will go blonde.
• Nicole will be I Love Lucy red.
• Toccara will have more length and thickness.
• Kristi will get a bang.
• Jennipher will get cut to shoulder length, and she will go blonde. Her hair will be donated to Locks of Love.
• Cassie will get thicker extensions.
• Amanda will go ice blonde.
• Eva will go shorter.
• Norelle will get a cut, and she will see an orthodontist to get her braces removed.

Jennipher and Eva are crying about going shorter. The latter goes to Tyra for comfort, while Ann and Toccara console Jennipher. Ann is soon crying about the end result of her hair. Yaya is crying too. She later sees Dr. Debra Jaliman, who touched up her skin texture. Norelle sees Dr. Zarabi, who takes out the braces. Amanda has a diva attitude when she gets the blonde hair.

After makeovers, the girls have dinner that night at the Il Passatore. Cassie asks for a Diet Coke, and she wasn't eating as much as the other girls, much to their concern. There is a Tyra-mail the next morning at home.

Tyra Mail: Wash up, eat up, no make up, hurry up. You leave at 4:30 PM. Oh, and pack up. Models never know when they have to turn the heat up.

Challenge

The girls meet with Mr. Jay at an Indian restaurant. He will be challenging the girls on their makeup skills, showing what they learned from his makeup tips yesterday. Helping him to judge is CoverGirl Kiara Kabukuro. Julie asks if she had competition in the modeling world as a woman of color. Kiara says that its competitive in general. The winner of the challenge will receive an invitation to an industry party. The girls will do their makeup and get dressed in a limousine that is driving to the party, and they will have ten minutes to complete.

The girls are at the Anand Jon showroom. Jay and Kiara examine all the girls faces and outfits. They announce Norelle as the winner, and she chooses Eva, Ann and Kristi to share the prize. The four will wear original Anand Jon designs, while the losers will have to be servers for the party. The winners ask Julie to talk to Anand, as they are both Indian. She also belly dances with the dancers. There is a Tyra-mail back home.

Tyra Mail: Its time for your close-up to see whose beauty is true. Be ready at 7:30 AM.

Photoshoot

The next morning, the girls meet with Jay again at a studio. He tells them they will be doing a clean beauty shoot, with no make-up whatsoever. The photographer is Troy Ward. Ann is first to shoot. Jay says she's overthinking. Toccara does well, Nicole thought sexual, and Eva needs to think more beautiful moments. Kristi was the most limited to Troy, while Yaya showed confidence despite having rough skin. Jennipher needs to drop her face down, while Norelle needs more confidence. Julie didn't connect well with the camera, Kelle did poor, while Amanda was one of Jay's favorites.

Backstage, Cassie tells Amanda that she's bulimic, to which Amanda tells someone else, who spreads the word to all the other girls. She is seen coming out of the bathroom. Jennipher checks and says it smells like vomit, implying Cassie just threw up. Her, Ann and Eva all talk about her disorder while Cassie is eavesdropping. Cassie then shoots, and Jay thinks she looks confident and did well. Eva is upset about Amanda telling everyone about Cassie's secret. Amanda defends herself saying Cassie shouldn't have told her in the first place.

After the shoot, the girls have dinner at home. Cassie walks in and addresses the rumors. She says she doesn't consider herself bulimic because she doesn't throw up after she eats every time. She asks them to talk to her about it and not to gossip behind her back. Eva suggests Amanda tried to sabotage Cassie because she's intimidated by her. Amanda cries on the phone because she felt bad about snitching.

Tyra Mail: Tomorrow you will meet with the judges. Only eleven of you will continue on in hopes of becoming "America's Next Top Model". One of you will be eliminated.

Judging

The guest judge is Danilo, a hairstylist. Jay walks in to announce the judging challenge. There will be packs of CoverGirl makeup on their beds, and they have ten minutes to apply one half of their face a minimal day look, and the other half a nighttime diva look. For the photoshoot, Tyra tells the girls they will be showing the retouched and unretouched versions, because retouching is expensive.

• Janice thinks Kristi looks like Cousin It. The eyes are dead in her photo.
• Nigel doesn't see a difference in Eva's makeup halves. Her photo is good retouched, but not unretouched.
• Janice thinks Cassie's unretouched is better than the retouched.
• All the judges love Jennipher's transformation, but her photo is boring in both versions.
• Amanda has too much makeup on the day side. Her photo is praised across the board, and there is barely any retouching.
• Both of Nicole's photos are praised.
• Tyra loves Toccara's photo, Janice still loves her skin unretouched.
• Tyra likes Norelle's makeup, but there's too much hand in her photo. The unretouched is terrifying to Janice.
• Ann photo is hated by all the judges across the board.
• Julie needs more makeup, and she needs her hair down. Janice thinks she looks pedestrian in the photo. She then asks her why she wants to be a model. Julie responds she wants to learn more about the industry to start her own manufacturing company.
• Yaya looks soft in her photo, and Nigel suggests she needs to drink more water to help her skin.
• Tyra tells Kelle she needs more makeup as a woman of color. Her photo is bland, and Janice has them cut back and forth between the retouched and unretouched. Kelle says there were better photos, and Tyra says if there were, they would be chosen, and she tells her she's making excuses.

At deliberation, Tyra hated that Julie was using the model world to get somewhere else, and she hated Kelle for deflecting.

Trivia

• The CoverGirl of the Week is Yaya. She is the first girl to receive this title for two weeks in a row.
• This is the first time in ANTM history where makeovers are done after just one photoshoot.
• This is the first cycle to have the girls do a makeover photoshoot. This is the only time where the shooting isn't aired and the photos will not be shown until the group fadeout at the end of the episode.
• This is the fifth beauty shoot in ANTM history.
• Anand Jon will later be convicted in 2008 on multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, including to a minor. He is currently serving 59 years to life in prison.
