Cycle 18 of America's Next Top Model, also known as Cycle 18: British Invasion, premiered on The CW on February 29, 2012 and concluded on May 30, 2012. This cycle featured seven contestants who had previously competed on Britain's Next Top Model.

Tyra Banks reprises her role as host for the eighteenth time, while Nigel Barker returns for his role as main judge for the sixteenth and final time. He will make a guest appearance on the comeback episode of cycle 24. André Leon Talley is replaced by Kelly Cutrone, who will remain as a judge until the shows first cancellation. This is also the last cycle to feature Mr. Jay Manuel and Miss Jay Alexander before getting fired. Miss J will return as a judge on cycle 21 while Mr. Jay would never make an appearance again. This cycle had 13 episodes with 14 contestants.

Sophie Sumner, who originally was runner-up on cycle 5 of Britain, was crowned as the winner of this cycle.

The models receive makeovers, but some of them are unhappy with their new looks. Later, the ladies pose as toddlers in a photo shoot with Kris Jenner and her daughters Kendall and Kylie.
220 3 "Cat Deeley" March 14, 2012
The models create an ad campaign that requires casting, wardrobe and props. Kelly Cutrone mentors the girls during the challenge, but some of the ladies cannot handle her criticism. Cat Deeley is a guest judge.
221 4 "J. Alexander" March 21, 2012
The U.S. women start to break down, while the British ladies rally together. At the challenge, the models create their own TV commercial, and at the photo shoot they pose in vintage American cars while wearing British couture hats. One contestant considers leaving the competition.

The ladies attend fashion week in Toronto and try to book modeling assignments. At the photo shoot, the girls pose in foliage while being covered with maple syrup. Beverly Johnson is a guest judge.

The models create and record music videos with help from Jessica Sutta and Nadine Coyle.

The models work on an antibullying campaign. At the photo shoot, the girls model with singer Estelle and pose as art installations during a dinner party.

The models vie to open a fashion show where the fashion elite, including Georgina Chapman, will be present. Later: Wearing heavy Hello Kitty couture gowns proves problematic for some of the contestants.
226 9 "Barney Cheng" May 2, 2012
The final six models travel to Macau, where they get a reading from an astrologer and are challenged to re-create their auras through fashion. At the photo shoot, the ladies pose in silk gowns while silkworms crawl on their bodies. Designer Barney Cheng is a guest judge.
227 10 "Nicholas Tse" May 9, 2012
The models visit Hong Kong, where they must learn a fight sequence and act in a scene with Nicholas Tse. At the photo shoot, the ladies pose while harnessed atop a high-rise tower in harsh rain and wind.

The models attend go-sees in Hong Kong. At the photo shoot, the ladies pose for a new fragrance in front of the client. Photographer Jez Smith is a guest judge.

Highlights from the "British Invasion" cycle.
230 13 "Season Finale" May 30, 2012
The eighteenth season concludes with the final models shooting a Covergirl commercial and one of them suffering a panic attack. Later, the girls participate in a holographic runway show and appear before the judges, who select the winner.

Controversy[]

One of the most memorable moments in the shows history, an argument took place between Kelly Cutrone and Louise Watts, resulting in Watts voluntarily leaving the show. Following transmission of the episode, Kelly posted a mocking video to Louise online, and came under fire from fans of the show who accused her of cyberbullying.[1]

Trivia[]

  • This is the only cycle to feature contestants from another Top Model competing with ANTM contestants.
  • This was also the second cross-over in the Top Model franchise, after Austria's Next Topmodel winner Larissa Marolt received a place on cycle 4 of Germany's Next Topmodel as one of her prizes.
  • This is the first cycle to feature contestants coming from non-US territories. This is followed by Chantelle Young in cycle 21, who came from Canada.
  • The international destinations for this cycle was Macau and Hong Kong. Along with the trips to Toronto and Ontario, Canada, this is the second cycle to have three international destinations after cycle 9, as well as the second cycle to have a destination before the top six.
  • Annaliese revealed on her YouTube channel that Amelia Thomas from cycle 6 was supposed to take part as a contestant. However, due to stress and other factors, she withdrew before the competition aired. Her replacement is unknown.
