Aminat Ayinde was a contestant on cycle 12 of ANTM in 2009, where she was the second runner-up.

Early Life[]

Aminat is of Nigerian heritage, and grew up in a muslim household.

She was scouted for the show by a casting associate named Monique Peters. She was starting her senior year at William Paterson University.[1]

ANTM[]

In episode three, Aminat told Sandra that she was disappointed that she stayed over Isabella. She then won the CoverGirl spokemodel challenge with Celia and Sandra.

In episode six, after Celia threw Tahlia under the bus at judging, Sandra told Aminat, Teyona and Tahlia that Celia, Allison and Natalie were talking about Tahlia behind her back, which led to a fight in the kitchen. Aminat infamously walked up to Natalie and repeated to scream "Stupid" at her, and calling her nothing.

She was in the bottom two in episode nine for her bland photo, but saved over London. She was bottom two again next episode for dead facial expressions, and again saved over Natalie. Her third bottom two was in episode eleven, and saved again over Celia. She was finally eliminated in the finale for not being as consistent as Teyona and Allison.

At the cycle 12 reunion, Aminat was voted "Most banging body".[2]

Post-Show[]

After the show, Aminat signed to MMG Models in New York, as well as Base Model Agency and Twenty Model Management in Cape Town.[3][4] She has appeared in Ebony, Seventeen, Essence, Genevieve, WD, Fairlady, Baku, One Up Cape Town, Grazia South Africa, Dark Beauty, Guitar Aficionado, The Sunday Times Fashion Weekly South Africa, Balanced Life South Africa, Women's Health South Africa, as well as some bridal magazines.[5][6]

She walked in the This Day/Arise: African Fashion Collection S/S 2010 show. She also walked in every Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC since 2009 and has walked in Nigerian and South African Fashion Weeks. Her clients include Heatherette, Supima, Sergio Davila, Ahn Young Chee, LaQuan Smith, Korto Momolu, Zulu Rose, David Tlale and Lanre DaSilva-Ajay.

She was a model on season 2 of "Project Runway: All Stars" walking for Emilio Sosa.[7] She was also on season 14 walking for Edmond Nelson for his finale collection wearing his first look.

Aminat and Fo did an Instagram livestream in 2020 after the cycle 12 Jays Chat. The stream has over 20,000 views on YouTube.[8]

Legacy[]

Her, Tahlia and Teyona's fight with Allison, Celia and Natalie ranked number four on MsMojo's YouTube video "Top 10 Craziest Fights on America's Next Top Model".[9]

Trivia[]

  • Aminat is the second girl of Nigerian heritage to compete. She is after Nnenna Agba.
  • Aminat stated in a 2015 interview that she was asked to be on All-Stars, but declined the offer.[10]
